MOUNIR GHAZI - MAGIC IN PARIS

Evening guys, tonight I'm throwing it back to the summer and talking about Mounir Ghazi - The man, not the brand. I want to share Mounir's film which hopefully by now, most of you have seen already across on my IG as well as give you a little insight of how the film came about here on my blog.

Mounir asked me to film across in Paris earlier this year and it's ONLY now I can talk about it and show you guys what we created together. The brief was to come up with an ultra premium film covering a little more about Mounir himself. From his passions, his background and his roots to what his life looks like now, living in the capital of France. He also wanted to show his journey of becoming a fashion designer, soaking up everything from personal inspiration, his taste in music and of course the design process of crafting one of his stunning leathers.

I remember heading to Mounir's pad for the first time after meeting him just off the Champs-Élysees, walking to his killer studio which was a short distance from the bustling street, past a few fancy wine bars and restaurants, through a large, green, locked double door. A tight Parisian wooden staircase leads off a huge cobbled courtyard up to his apartment, which opened out to an airy, bright, living room with the most amazing marble fire surround slap bang in the middle. This was where the shoot was to take place.

After unpacking my things and heading out to explore the city and obviously experiencing as much of the French cuisine as possible . . .  the bread, cheese and the odd glass of red, we headed back to talk - the plan. We sat and chilled, kicking back after a busy day exploring Paris and brainstormed out loud. Jotting idea's down franticly on a scrap of paper, coming up with a storyline and shots we needed to achieve that evening in his studio and workroom for his creations.

The past shoots Mounir and myself have created have been very late nights indeed. A few years back in London, after a wild penthouse party at a hotel in Marylebone, we decided to create this crazy film using the down right cool aesthetic surroundings of the hotel we'd been invited to and then subsidently crashed at after. I remember leaving the party of passed out people upstairs, having a coffee and shooting in this deserted hotel lobby bar at like 4AM in the morning, it was epic! Myself fully dressed in leather - the coolest trousers and biker, taking shots in the corridors and then heading out onto the streets of London until the sun came up.

The Paris shoot timing was no different, we just work better in the dark. I had to include this shot (from said London shoot) which Mounir now has blown up and framed on his wall!

Then the night itself came around, we'd gone for a bite to eat at a near by restaurant, headed back for 11PM and we started to roll. Mounir put The Stones back catalogue of songs on from when they lived in Marrakesh and also started to prepare me, the finest Moroccan tea I've ever tasted, the freshness of the mint, the sweetness of the sugar, and the depth of the tea, strained and stirred, not to mention poured to perfection. We were getting in the zone man!

Now off and running, we had the candles lit we'd bought earlier on in the day, the red roses we also picked up earlier were a main feature on the fireplace, the studio was looking amazing. I'd also brought my smoke machine, which always adds such a mysterious air to things whilst shooting, not to mention making everything look cool as fuck - I knew that pairing this with my strobe was going to give us some cool effects indeed! By this time the Moroccan tea was brewed and the Stones were supplying us with the best soundtrack, all inspiring us creatively to get into the groove. Mannequins shadows danced on the walls, smoke hung in the air, guitars were being passed and played room to room, amps lay on the sofa's, Mounir's leathers now scattered the studio and I knew at this moment, the film was going to be exactly what we'd set out to create. Legendary.

We didn't wrap the shoot until 5:30 in the morning but we both knew one thing, when we said goodnight, magic was made. I flew back a few days later and edited it all up. The final stumbling block a few weeks in was capturing everything in a such a short sequence. I had disregarded the bits I didn't want, but the problem now was - I had too much good footage! I was stuck and the only thing I knew that would get me back into the right frame of mind was where the pure essence of the films personality originated - to somehow find Moroccan tea in Scotland. After a little googling I headed into town, collected all the ingredients, arrived back to the flat and poured myself a few cups, lashed it all out in an seven hour edit of craziness, into the early hours of the morning, the perfect accompaniment to finalising the film. September rolled around and Mounir had the film in his inbox. That's the way I roll, done.

WRONG GENERATION

Evening guys, right SO before I set off on telling you the story of how one of the coolest shoots I've ever shot came about, I want to let you know that I explain the whole story a lot better across on my YouTube channel. I mean, keep reading and scroll through these killer images, check Wrong Generation's super cool velvets, tailored suits out by all means in the link at the bottom of this page, but watch my YouTube - I promise, it'll be better for the both of us!

If you've got this far and you're still reading, I guess you're a lot more patient than I thought. So where do I start . . It all began when I saw THEE fucking coolest sponsored post, on a late night scroll through Instagram! That's where I was first introduced to Wrong Generation! The shot, a single photograph told me everything I needed to know -bang. The shot was an in-your-face bright green, lime velvet suit, right front and centre, styled by a killer-cool red head model, caught in motion by a flash of a camera, captured in the most opulent setting. And there you have it, that was my first impression of the brand, so YES I obviously had to tap through to find out more.

Landing on there IG I was greeted with a crazy cool feed, featuring a rainbow of sharply tailored velvet suits, cropped jackets and flares all worn by the coolest of girls. I know, it's not even a bloody male fashion brand and it had me in the palm of its hand, instantly - I was hooked! There and then I started to write out a DM, to express my love for the brand. I couldn't help myself, what's the worst that could happen? I'd get a 'seen'. I just had to tell this brand how much I'd bloody love to work with them! SENT.

Two minutes later, a message back - from one of the coolest brands I'd just so happened to have stumbled upon on IG. Reply - I LOVE YOUR WORK! I DON'T DO MESSAGES, CALL ME . .

Cut to - the next day. A tense phone call (as I'm not really one for phone calls). I'd spoken to Mia, girl boss and all round legend, we hit it off there and then and BANG a shoot was arranged for one the following week! He's off to London baby!

We organised a brief plan, when I say brief - I mean I work to a loose, we'll go with the flow, see what happens plan, it always works out for me, of course it does, I'm a legend when it comes to video. Mia had the same outlook as myself when it came to she shoot. We just let this shoot flow, work around the models, the EPIC hair and makeup team and capture the best content we possibly can, whilst we walked & taxi'ed through the streets of Chelsea. My sort of shoot!

I do have to say, the models, hair and makeup guys absolutely smashed it out the park. With a team that good, the shoot could have only being epic. Not forgetting Oliver the photographer, these are mostly his shots, he's kindly let me post, you can check out his page here - Oliver Morris

I can't fit half of the things I'd love to say about the brand on my blog, so as I said, if you want a more detailed account, plus some legendary stories - head across to my YouTube channel! Check out Wrong Generation here!

SIDE NOTE - You're now looking at the 11th Best Videographer in London Town, that title was kindly given to me by the legends across at Wedio.co.uk (which I'll explain a lot more about on the o'lllll video below!

I'll take No.11 for now, I'd like to thank Wedio.co.uk for placing me on their list, thanks from the bottom of my heart for this recognition!

But we all know there's only one way I'm going!
UP!

Cheers for reading,

CREATING TO CREATE

This is a strange time for us all, however, occupying your mind is key to get us all ploughing through this monotonous regime we all find ourselves in. Jokes aside this is a little like my normal situation while trying to get myself recognised about what I do and show- casing brands and businesses what I can create. Creating something from nothing is a task and mindset I'm getting more and more accustomed to.

I've been doing it for months, its the case of thinking of idea's out of nowhere and trying to inspire myself to coming up with sketches and plans, then put them into action and start to film. A recent challenge I set myself was to create a series of short Instagram story films for the jewellery company - The Great Frog. I always pick a brand I'd love to work with, then head across to my sketch book, draw my ideas on paper rather than just imagine them in my head, sketching always helps me get my thoughts down on paper and implement the sketches and ideas into real life.

I want to be a videographer, that's what I want to do, but just endlessly messaging brands over email and getting nothing back is so depressing, getting knocked back again and again is pretty soul destroying. You've got to make yourself stand out from the crowd, you've got to be different, that's why I always make tailored video to go alongside my opening email. The most important thing is you've still got to believe, you still have to fucking stand by your talent, your work, as its easy to doubt yourself and your work after months of not being able to get work.

The longer it takes the more you doubt yourself, sell yourself cheap, don't ask for what you deserve. I often have these thoughts and always makes you doubt you're doing the right thing or following the right path. You've got to remain confident, confidence is key, you've got to remain positive! I know my videos are fucking cool, individual and I know a brand would be lucky to have me on board. To be honest the big brands I've approached have always messaged me back, I've had a reply from The Great Frog after sending the brand these tailored video's, which I'm super thankful for! I've also been lucky to hear back from brands such as Belstaff, my videos have also got me physical meeting's which is also great, I really appreciate them getting back to me with their positive comments however, at the moment, there always seems to be a 'but'.

That 'but' for the meantime doesn't bother me, that much, I've taken this time to work on myself, my positivity, my talent I fully believe on day will land me that dream job, doing exactly what I want to do, I know that day is coming. Now is the perfect time to focus on yourself, polish your skills, make connections but most importantly plan, sketch, keep busy and create!

DIOR SAUVAGE

Evening guys, in tonight's post I want to talk to you about Dior's new Sauvage fragrance. I still have a small bottle of the last and first Sauvage Dior released, but this new parfum is a fragrance I personally can't get enough ofThe new Sauvage exudes a smooth citrus orange aroma which I absolutely adore, I've always loved the aftershave but with this new added juicy citrus note it brings a new powerful, masculine dimension to the smell, which is even more up my street!

It only takes three sprays, one on each side of the neck and the third rubbed into the back of the wrists to have you smelling great all night long, the fragrance only changing very subtly as it warms into your skin. It's a very warm summer aroma in my opinion, the freshness of the mandarin citrus aroma comes first, then after the parfum ages on the skin you also start to smell hints of leather and wood, along with fresh peppery note that seem to cling to you for hours on end, getting better and better as each hour passes.

My family and friends have all commented on my new fragrance upon meeting them, it's an aftershave which is instantly recognised when entering a room or getting close to someone, which is always a good thing, I always think smelling great always gives you that little bit extra, that point of difference, that thing that people will always refer to and remember you by and Dior's Sauvage is mine.

The creator of Dior's Sauvage said "For this new parfum I kept the powerful soul of Sauvage intact by giving it nocturnal accents. An animal attraction and some rounder facets". Personally I normally wear aftershave more often on a night-time rather than any other point of the day, it all depends on where I'm going or whom I'm meeting I suppose, but this quote resonates with me as I love the mystery this fragrance surrounds you in.

As you can probably figure out from my film below, I've not heard back from the lists of people I've contacted this week regarding video content, meaning one thing, get used to films starring me!

I decided to make this film with the fragrance & myself being the focus. I've edited an uber cool backdrop of a palm tree on fire, because what's cooler than a palm tree, on fire! I tried to make this fake ad for Dior look as cool as I could, with LA and the desert on my mind. Hopefully I've given Mr. Depp a run for his money. I'm actually quite impressed what I've managed to make with a tripod, light and wall in my bedroom pretending to impersonate Mick Jagger but I think it works.

You can explore more of the fragrance by visiting Dior or clicking the link to The Perfume Shop here.

Cheers for checking in and reading,

FREELANCE - WEEK ONE

Evening guys, here's a quick catch up on my first week of solely focusing on creating video. As I said, when I told you guys I'd left work, I have no jobs so far set in stone, but starting the day focusing on a new and exciting venture of mine is something I've always wanted to do. Trying to find people or brands I can create & collaborate with on video projects is something I'm super excited and passionate about. I'm literally going out there on a limb and finding my own work, it's pretty scary, as yet I have no paid work, but I have got somewhat of a safety blanket as all of my holidays I didn't use from work are now going to come in this month, which will keep me somewhat still in the game till the end of the month, but then I'll have to get cracking!

That in mind I'm going to spend the rest of this month advertising my video's and really putting a conscious effort into getting seen and heard by as many people as I possibly can. I've also spent this week getting on top of, and learning everything about my new camera. I wanted to get super confident in using my new camera before the big work starts (fingers crossed, pretty soon)! I've made a handful of films this week, including one of Castlefield, a favourite spot of mine in Manchester, plus a film I've just uploaded tonight across on my personal Instagram of my cowgirl pal - Starr Clare.

I'd of done a lot more shoots last week but the weather in Manchester has been so bad recently the only thing I could do was film in the flat. Thankfully Starr and I made it look as cool as we could, going for a vintage style, western inspired film you can see across on my instagram now - The Unidentified Rocker. I have a few things up my sleeve for next week, focusing a little closer to home, and another being filmed in my top late night spot in Manchester. Next week I will be in London (for a party) but  hopefully working a little too over my long weekend stay in the city.

So with my second week as a freelancer just about to begin I want to focus, refine my skills, learn new things and to get out there, inspiring myself with everything the world puts in front of me. I'm also going to come up with a comprehensive plan over the next few weeks and ride this wave of new found positivity. You'll be hearing my second weekly check in on instagram soon, possibly Tuesday, so stay tuned for that.

Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better first week to my new solo project. I've done everything I said I wanted to do, including putting myself out there, working with friends and making new connections as well as always looking for new opportunities.

I'm also looking to branch out a little online signing up to online job platforms. I'm currently not on any! I think that needs to drastically change. It's not all about the lists and online job sites however, I know some stuff still happens the old school way. Either word of mouth, friend of a friend, or happening to be in the right place at the right time, or even someone reading a blog post. So if you are reading this post and you want to work together or know someone who does, hit me up and whack me a message.

Those of you who are wanting to see the other side of my wardrobe on YouTube, I promise you it is coming soon, you will see all my jackets in the next week when I get the time to film the next half!

Thanks for reading,

Cheers,
